NCAA Tourney

I cant believe my alma mater went down to Cleveland St. I'm not going
to lie that was a very disheartening loss and not to mention that they
were never in the game, I just don't understand how a team that was
previous 16-0 and ranked number #1 in the country could never be in the
game against the less known Vikings. I'm definitely not taking anything
any from Cleveland State because they whipped Wake from the opening
whistle but you would think that a grueling ACC schedule would prepare
the Deacons for a game like this. I guess not but to be honest that
is the reason why college athletics is such a big draw because any
given game anyone can win. Now I guess I will be rooting for the North
Carolina Tar Heels for the rest of the tourney or anyone really except
Duke......who doesn't hate Duke?

My question for you guys is one that I have had for a while, does it make
sense for a team like Morehead State or Kentucky St to go to the NCAA
tourney or any other 16 seed to play in the tourney when it seems like
they are so over matched that its a cake walk for most teams? To me it
would seem more reasonable for them to compete on a lower level so
that they can actually play for a championship instead of just saying
that they made the field of 64 just for the sake of saying that they
made it. I think that they could have let Penn St, Miami, or even Notre
Dame in at that 16 seed and that would make for some better opening
round games.

  Interesting question and I hear your point about competing for something they might be able to actually win.... but I think being on the BIG stage, going to THE tournament, and knowing that your name was on everyone in America's brackets... that is a pretty big deal for these no-name schools. It's fun for the fans and the students, even though they know they'll lose. Plus, even though people love upsets, no one really want to see a one-seed get toppled in the first round, so it works out well to have them play a nobody.
  
  But I don't know, I'm not on one of those teams, so I can't speak for them...

    I agree. Getting a coveted spot, even if it's as a 16 seed is enough for some of these schools. Besides, going in with a #1 ranking is supposed to mean you get an easy game out the gate. Equilvalent to a playoff bye. Of course, it doesn't always turn out to be such an easy win.

  but yeah, teams like cleveland state shouldnt be allowed in, they wouldnt stand a chance against the big boys like wake forest

  Hey, the Pitt-Eastern Tennesee game was close. Pitt was only up by three at the half....and they won 72-62. I mean...its going to happen some day!

  The great thing about the Tourney is the underdogs, the less known schools. People don't want to see UNC and Duke win it over and over again. They want to see George Mason go to the final four. The want to see Davidson have a big run and see Curry. That is what the game is all about.

    its over now though, the refs just made sure dookie won, i hope they were payed well by dukes athletic department gave the refs a hefty pay day

  Mmm... Well im not sure about other sports but in basketball isnt that what the NIT is for?!
  Remember when we were playing back at Wake and mens basketball for once didnt have such a good year They missed the NCAA tournament but ended up winning the NIT, remember?!?

  Calvin, first of all, i hope you are enjoying North Jersey, you lucked out by moving out of Long Island right after you signed. As for Duke (being a Maryland Fan although i went to Syracuse) I grew up knowing two things. 1) There is a God 2) He also hates Duke. Cleveland State took down Syracuse this year as well so don't feel so bad they are a decent team, but you are right Wake looked real flat in that game. You should look at history though, although a #1 hasn't ever lost to a 16 there have been 15-2 upsets (Richmond Vs. Syracuse) comes to mind and there were some close games Princeton lost by 1 point in a 16 vs 1 match so one day it will happen. Hows the land of Rex doing these days? I'm thrilled Cutler wasn't acquired by the Jets so Kellen and Brett can duke it out. Cutler is a pre-madonna and you guys are better off without the QB being the centerpiece of everything like it was last year with that circus. Peace! Drew
