Pittsburgh radio host claims to know who Steelers want in first round of NFL Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a track record of not being shy in showing their interest in potential first-round picks over the past few years.

That's exactly why one analyst believes it's obvious who Pittsburgh is planning to select at pick No. 20 in the 2024 NFL Draft.

"Remember when the worst kept draft secret of all-time was the Steelers taking Najee Harris in 2021? Everyone knew it. I'm getting the same feedback on Georgia OT Amarius Mims," 93.7 The Fan's Andrew Fillipponi posted on platform X. "They expect him to be there. And expect him to be the pick."

Fillipponi has a point. The only thing that felt like it could prevent the Steelers from drafting Harris three years ago was if a team was willing to jump them for him. It seems that could be the case once again when it comes to Mims.

Pittsburgh is clearly very interested in potentially using its first-round pick on the Georgia product, as he is one of only two prospects (Clemson CB Nate Wiggins is the other) whom the team has hosted on a pre-draft visit, met formally at the NFL Scouting Combine and attended the pro day of (after taking him out to dinner the previous night).

Plus, Mims would fill an obvious need on the Steelers roster. Pittsburgh traded up in last year's draft for his former Georgia teammate, Broderick Jones. However, Jones spent his rookie season at right tackle while Dan Moore Jr. was on the left side, with Moore allowing eight sacks.

Drafting Mims, who has primarily played right tackle, would allow Jones to move back to his primary position of left tackle. It's rare that a selection would upgrade two positions simultaneously and why this one would make so much sense for th4e Steelers.

The massive 6-foot-7, 340-pound Mims ranks as the No. 22 overall prospect on Pro Football Focus big board after allowing just five pressures and zero sacks in 365 total pass block snaps during his time at Georgia, per CBS Sports.

A lot can still change between now and April 25, but it would not be surprising if Mims becomes a Steeler in about two weeks.
