Carlo Ancelotti insists his spell at Bayern Munich was a ‘nice experience’ and admits he rewatched Real Madrid‘s penalty shoot-outs against Manchester City.

Ancelotti will visit his former club, Bayern Munich, in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals tonight.

The Italian tactician spent barely a year in Germany and won the Bundesliga title in 2017 before being sacked in September of the same year.

Sky Sport asked the Italian tactician if he was excited to return to the German capital for such a big game.

“Yeah, it’s exciting. I have good and bad memories here,” he replied.

“It was a nice experience. Munich is a great city. I have other memories. Exactly ten years ago, we won a semifinal 4-0 here but this time, it will be a different story. How can I forget that? However, it was the past and we must think about the next game.”

The journalist also asked Ancelotti if he had rewatched Real Madrid’s penalty shoot-outs against Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

“Yeah, I watched them because I was there,” he said smiling.

“I rewatched [on TV] as well and it all went well.”

Ancelotti is the only coach to have won the domestic title in each of the top five European leagues and is the only one to have lifted the Champions League trophy four times.

The Italian tactician has recently signed a contract extension with Real Madrid until June 2026.
